Superstition Ain’t The Way.

How true indeed! This line is from the song ‘Superstition’ by Stevie Wonder.

No matter how educated our society gets, we still believe in bizarre superstitions.

Sometime ago while walking on the road, admiring the trees and the sky, I stepped on a lemon which was tied to a few green chillies.

It is a superstition in India that the lemon and chillies ward off bad luck, so people tie them outside their houses and to their vehicles. Every week they throw the old lemon and chillies on the road, and if you somehow step on them it is believed that you will get possessed.

When I was young I heard tons of stories of people who got possessed because they stepped on a lemon at a crossroad.

Superstitions and our subconscious mind :

After reading about the power of our subconscious mind, it got me thinking – does one really get possessed, or is it the belief of getting possessed that makes a person act paranormal?

If someone steps on the lemon, and then floods their conscious mind with thoughts of bad luck, then their subconscious mind will take the hint and bad luck will follow.

We need to stop believing in such myths. For heaven's sake, we shouldn’t live in fear of a lemon thrown on the road, which is only one amongst the innumerable superstitions that exist in different countries all over the world.

When life gives you free lemons on the road, pick them up and make lemon juice – Well, I don’t think that’s very hygienic. Haha.

For the record, I did NOT get possessed. Unless of course you feel that my blog posts are written by Dr. Joseph Murphy. *wink*

Thank you for reading! Stay blessed!
