I read the above sentence in the book ‘The Alchemist’ by Paulo Coelho. I was completely captivated by the book, no wonder it is a bestseller.
I later read the book ‘The Power of Your Subconscious Mind’ by Dr. Joseph Murphy.
Both the books speak about the power of one’s subconscious mind, and how if we believe in something with all our heart, it will surely come true.
The human mind is a powerful tool, which can both be a blessing and a curse.
It can be a blessing when solving a problem, but it can be a curse when the mind chatter never ends, leading to anxiety and depression.
There are two levels to the human mind :
1) The conscious or rational level.
2) The subconscious or irrational level.
Believe, and it will come true :
In the book, Dr. Joseph Murphy writes, ‘Your subconscious mind takes the orders you give it, based upon what your conscious mind believes and accepts as true.’
In other words, we can achieve good health, success and happiness by feeding positive thoughts to our conscious mind.
The power of faith :
All of us have read articles which tell us to ‘Be Positive’, but it isn’t always practical.
However, in both the books, faith has been given a lot of importance.
Faith is not limited to any religion. It is essentially a belief in a higher power, or in something that is bigger than you.
You can have faith in God, in your work, in anything.
Methods of praying :
Prayer is the soul’s sincere desire.
In the book, Dr. Joseph Murphy mentions a few techniques of praying.
The following are the ones I practice regularly :
1) The Visualization Technique :
As mentioned by the author, any picture you have in your mind is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen.
Whatever you believe to be true, will be manifested as facts and experiences in your life.
A simple way to practice this is to close your eyes and visualise what you wish for. Thereafter, firmly believe that you have accomplished or attained it. Your desires will then be fulfilled.
2) The “Thank You” Technique :
The author says that the thankful heart is always close to the creative forces of the Universe, causing countless blessings to flow toward it.
So let’s say you want success, repeat the sentence, “Thank you Father for my success” multiple times a day.
By doing this, you are drawing success towards you, using the infinite intelligence of your subconscious mind. You will ultimately be successful.
3) The Affirmative Method :
You may have read affirmations /mantras many a time. But they do not work by blindly repeating them. You need to believe in what you are repeating with all your heart.
As the author says, ‘To affirm is to state that it is so. As you maintain this attitude of mind as true, regardless of all evidence to the contrary, you will receive an answer to your prayer.’
Hard work pays off :
As much as prayer works, do not leave everything to fate.
As the saying goes, ‘There is no elevator to success. You have to use the staircase.’
Have faith, pray regularly, but never stop putting in the effort needed to succeed.
Thank you for reading! Stay blessed!
